I’m still here! However, I think this must be the time of year when everyone’s busy. When life gets hectic I like to imagine I’m taking a stroll on a beautiful beach with an ice-cold fruit punch in my hand. ((Contented sigh))
Anyway, aside from my peaceful imaginings and all the other be happenings, I have been learning a multitude of lessons. One lesson I shan’t soon forget came from one the of the speakers at my church’s 4th anniversary conference, “Not everyone that’s saved is a CHRISTian…”
What? Wait a minute; you mean to tell me that even though I have Jesus in my heart, I might not be a CHRISTian?
Allow me to explain. I have two brothers, John Mark and David. At a glance there’s no denying that John Mark is my dad’s son, he looks and acts like my dad. David, on the other hand, bares different physical characteristics and an entirely different personality. Now, because David looks and acts differently than my dad, does that mean he’s not my dad’s son? No, of course not. It may seem more obvious that John Mark belongs to my dad but my dad’s blood runs in David’s veins too. In a very similar way, those of us who have asked Jesus into our hearts are saved, in other words, we are God’s children.
Notice how I capitalized CHRIST in the word CHRISTian earlier? I wanted you to notice CHRIST. Plenty of people are saved and going to heaven but few are making CHRIST noticeable in their lives. After Jesus died, rose again, and then ascended into heaven, the disciples continued to live their lives in a very CHRIST-like manner, therefore earning the name CHRISTians or ‘little Christs’. Acts 11:26
Yes, you may have Jesus in your heart, but is that it? Is your life just a whisper of Christ? Or does your life shout GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD?!
If you have asked Jesus to come into your heart, that’s great. But please know that the abundant life God has to offer only comes by serving Him, not by sitting on the church bench. What good would it do a quarterback to be all excited about joining the football team if all he is going to do is sit on the bench? Get in the game! We’ve got a race to run! Hebrews 12:1 And if we’re going to run in a race we might as well run it with all our might! 1 Corinthians 9:24 Will you join me in my fight to be more like CHRIST?!!
